Stephen Woody

About the Artist

Stephen Woody is relatively new to acrylic painting but he has a background in watercolor which was the medium of choice when working as a scene designer in theatre for 25+ years. He has also explored the use of light as a design medium when serving as a lighting designer in both theatre and dance productions. He taught theatre scenic and lighting design at the college/university level for eighteen years.  For a time he wandered into sculpting in soapstone as a new area of creative production where he focused on finding a variety of animals hiding in the stone.

He is a member of the Sun City West Art Club and has taken classes in drawing and in acrylic landscape painting offered by that club. His primary focus in acrylic is landscape painting, but he has also moved into painting animals - initially Maggie, his 13 year old Maine coon cat, and portraits - initially a self-portrait.

For now he is having so much fun learning the subtleties of working with this new-to-him medium of acrylic paint that anything and everything can be his next subject.
